Accredited water testing

Accredited Water Testing You Can Rely On

Water testing is offered in many forms, from consumer strips to attended sampling with laboratory analysis. The terminology used to describe them is not standardized, and the differences between them are substantial.

Olympian Water Testing provides attended sampling with NELAP accredited laboratory analysis for homeowners, property buyers, building owners, managing agents and institutional clients throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

What Accreditation Describes

Accreditation applies to specific analytical methods and to the facility conditions under which they are performed. It is a documented status rather than a marketing description, and a client is entitled to establish what accreditation applies before proceeding.

Method identifiers are similarly checkable. Where a report cites EPA Method 537.1 or EPA Method 533, a reader can look up precisely what that method covers.

Reporting limits complete the picture, since they state the lowest concentration a method can dependably quantify and therefore give meaning to any parameter reported as not detected.

What to Establish Before Commissioning Testing

Four questions resolve most of it. Whether our laboratory technicians perform the sampling event on site. What accreditation applies to the analysis. Which methods will be used. And whether parameters not detected will appear in the finished report.

Olympian Water Testing answers all four before an engagement is agreed and provides a specimen report on request, so the standard can be assessed directly rather than described.

Collection conditions are documented as a matter of course, including the stagnation period requested of the client and the field conditions applying at each point.

What a Complete Report Contains

The completed data package identifies the parameters analyzed, measured results, reporting limits, sampled locations and the applicable reference framework.

Results are given in full rather than summarized, which allows a technical reader to assess the underlying data.

Health related interpretation for a specific individual is properly directed to a physician, and the report is prepared to make that conversation a specific one.

Common questions

Can tap water taste normal and still fail a laboratory test?
Yes. Taste and odor are poor indicators for many contaminants, including lead, PFAS and numerous dissolved chemicals.
Is bottled water automatically safer than tap water?
The source and testing history matter more than assumptions. If the concern is the water at a specific property, direct testing of that water provides property-specific information.
What is the best way to investigate a change in tap-water color or odor?
Record where and when it occurs, whether hot and cold water are affected, and whether multiple fixtures show the same condition. Those details help determine useful sampling locations and parameters.
Can a laboratory tell me why a contaminant is present?
The laboratory measures what is in the sample. Identifying the likely source usually requires comparing locations, plumbing information, water-use conditions and sometimes additional targeted samples.
